Giorgia Caporuscio is the owner and head pizzaiola at Midtown’s award-winning pizzeria Don Antonio.
Among the few recognized women pizza makers in both her native Italy and adopted home of New York,
Giorgia first studied under her father Roberto Caporuscio and then his mentor, Antonio Starita, before
embarking on lengthy and intensive internships around Italy. She swiftly rose through the ranks, winning
first place in the World Championships Classic Pizza Category out of a staggering 500 competitors. She
is also the youngest of only two women to ever win the category, marking her as a pioneer in a
perennially male-dominated industry.

After assuming ownership of Don Antonio in 2023, Giorgia’s accolades mounted quickly. In 2024 alone,
Giorgia claimed the title of Pizza Maker of the Year from the prestigious 50 Top Pizza Guide, and landed
Don Antonio as the only female-owned restaurant listed in the MICHELIN in the pizza category. In
addition, Don Antonio currently ranks 7th pizzeria in the U.S., and 30th in the world, according to 50 Top
Pizza’s annual ranking.
Giorgia’s menu at Don Antonio remains true to tradition with an emphasis on quality ingredients and
technique. Her signature is pizza fritta – a light-as-air, elevated take on the craveable Italian street food.
Also offering 45 types of Neapolitan pizza, all of which undergo a 48-hour fermentation, Giorgia’s Don
Antonio reigns as a bastion of Neapolitan tradition, and has become a beloved destination in Manhattan.
Along with safeguarding Neapolitan pizza tradition, Giorgia also hopes to encourage other women to join
the field. She currently serves as the Ambassador of “Women in Pizza”, a movement that empowers
women in the pizza industry.
